Most Fall Trials will take place at George Nelms Park (click here for map)

Ottawa South United and the OSU Force Academy have adopted the trial format for evaluating players for our winter program, and summer teams. This format replaces the traditional tryout process where players are judged within one to two hours.

What’s the difference?

Open development sessions operate over multiple weeks whereas tryouts can often be brief, not allowing the technical staff to receive a full picture of a player’s ability. We believe that by adopting this model we can more accurately place players within appropriate training pools. Furthermore, this will allow the lead coach at each age group to be familiar with each player over the course of the five weeks.

How does it work?

Each player is asked to attend every session (if available). During these sessions players will be asked to play in different small-sided formats, such as 3v3  or 5v5. This format allows for more touches and gives players a better chance to be seen. Every player in the age group will attend and it will be the lead coaches responsibility to divide up the pool of players and carry out evaluations over the five weeks. Do note that those who do not attend all sessions will simply be evaluated on what they showed over the time they were present.

What’s the end result?

At the conclusion of the five-week period, coaches will notify each player of their placement in a winter training program. Selection to specific teams, for the 2017 outdoor season will only occur as of Spring 2017.

Note 1: Players who trial in the fall will not be asked to pay and participate for trials in Spring 2017, only new players who wish to join Ottawa South United.

How do we register?

All players must be registered online and have paid the trial fee. Trials will be paid for once per year, in the Fall or Spring depending on when the player starts his/her yearly trials.

Note:

1. Players selected for Force Black, White and Blue will have a yearly program cost (in monthly payments, which begin October 2016). For them, this will replace the traditional per program costing model.

2. For players selected to the Competitive program (Power, Rage, Titan teams) they will continue in the traditional payment model of per program cost. Registration for their winter program will be paid in full in October 2016. Program costs for the summer portion of the program will be paid in March 2017.
